After experiencing the effects of flooding itself in Easton in 2006, and seeing the tremendous damage brought to the area by repetitive flooding, Nurture Nature Foundation established the Nurture Nature Center in Easton to educate the public about flooding and ways to mitigate against flood losses to life and property. Our mission is to bring science into the discussion of water resource risks and hazards – and in particular, flooding - to help communities become more resilient. We are carrying out this mission through community-based education, and through programming and exhibits at the Nurture Nature Center.

NNC has undertaken several major flood education projects, including a series of Flood Forums funded by National Science Foundation, and a “Focus on Floods” public education campaign funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in partnership with the National Weather Service. Through these efforts, hundreds of people have participated in local educational meetings and forums, and thousands have received educational materials for use in professional and classroom venues. We have created a new program about climate and flooding for our keystone
exhibit, Science on a Sphere®, which will be launched in the fall of 2011, and this program will be shared with the 70 museums and organizations around the world that have a Science on a Sphere installed at their facilities. We are delighted for the chance to bring our expertise and focus to this international SOS network.

In all of our programming, we value the strength of community networks for information exchange, and the technical expertise of researchers and scientists, and bring both together for opportunities for learning and community deliberation about flooding and related critical water resource issues.

NNF is a foundation headquartered in New York that is dedicated to sustainable development. The Nurture Nature Center is located in an historic building NNF has dedicated to the Center. The Flood Project enjoys rent-free use of space in this building, for exhibits, programs, and other educational activities. Donations to further this project can be made on this website.
